Marino Marini è un industriale di cosmetici, quarantenne, al culmine del successo, il quale trascorre felice le sue giornate fra il suo hobby, la moglie Laura, il figlio di otto anni e le sue due amanti. Un giorno, mentre è nel suo ufficio, riceve una telefonata dal medico che lo ha visitato per effettuare delle analisi per conto di una società di assicurazioni: il check-up ha dato un risultato strano. Marino, pensando alle peggiori malattie, si reca spaventato alla clinica. Il medico confortato dalle controprove e dalla diagnosi di uno scienziato tedesco, Mayer, lo tranquillizza dicendogli che egli sta solo cambiando sesso.
